Days of 47 Float preview party

I forgot my camera so you don't get to see the floats until the parade. We voted for our favorites and picked out balloon creations and beautiful face paint. (Xander's isn't beautiful, it's cool!) The woman who painted their faces is so talented- she can do an entire creation in less than 5 minutes.

Are you Lego?

Have you ever wondered how you would look as a Lego Character?
Heres your chance!
We used the Mini-Mizer to create Lego figures that looked like us.

Adam and MiMi aren't here, they were at work(adam) and sleeping(MiMi).

So without further ado:
Here's Mom

Imogene-they didn't offer pink as a color choice, but the kitty made up for it.
Xander- missing teeth, transformer shirt and light saber all very appropriate
Xander's new super hero- a batman/flash/jedi/sith combination

You can also customize the shirts with your own text, add a tattoo, a ghost costume and so much more.
We have fun and spend way too much time when we start playing.

Day 11 Selective Color

Day 11: Selectively color part of an image

I have tried this teqnique before, using layer masks to reveal the color "hidden" beneath.
I just tried to have a little fun.
Imogene was disappointed because her body wasn't painted, being in black and white kind of bothers her.
I like this picture better in color, with a little bit of sharpness added, MiMi's eyes just sparkle.

Day 10

Today was a recap of all the teqniues so far-
clipping mask
textures
text overlay
some type
edge burn

Here is my result:

Day 9

I really liked the tecnique that was taught today; burned edges. I haven't seen using a gradient mask to burn in the edges, and it really naturally darkened the edges and allows the center to pop.

Day 8: Add text

Day 8 assignment: Using Text

Add text to a photo
optional: add texture or coloring

Day 6 TTV & Mega Challenge

Day 6 goal:
Add a vintage feel and a TTV filter.

I just learned about the TTV (through the Viewfinder) technique a few days ago (here) and I have to say i am intrigued. Basically the photographer uses a dual lens reflex camera and takes a picture using a digital camera pointed through the viewfinder of the DLR. I need to try this, the only thing holding me back is the need to come up with some kind of contraption to keep light out of the lens of the digital camera while taking the picture TTV. I just need to try it and see how it turns out.
Until then, there are a ton of textures and "frames" online that can be applied to mimic TTV.

First one of Imogene at just over one year old:
Next Xander (an old pic, from our visit to St. George in 2006)
This is a detail of Mercy's wedding dress- I love the aged look on the satin

Mega Challenge:
Tint a photo add TTV and any other technique that has been covered so far in the class. I chose the swirly stamp in the corner. I personally like the above image better, I think making it aged and a TTV filter is "messing around" with the picture enough.

Lesson 5 and Bonus 3

Add textures
I followed the instructions for a vintage tinted photograph and then applied the textures.

I really like the subtle pink of the swimsuit and the warmth of the sand. The original picture didn't have such nice brown tones. I also turn down the textures quite a bit.

Bonus #3
Place the image in a frame

Lesson 4

Goal: Add a clipping mask
In this photo it is the white border.

Lesson 3 and Bonus #2

Here is lesson three in my photoshop class:
I hand tinted the water and added some vintage coloring

Here is the Bonus Projects, I think it is a little silly but Imogene liked it.

I was suppoed to add "stars" but it seemed more fiting if it was "fairy dust"

Disneyland (Just a few Favorites)

These are a few pictures that I couldn't fit into any particular category for a post, but I love them and had to get them up.

MiMi started smiling when we wanted to take a picture so now we get a cute but fake smile.
Imogene never stopped smiling the entire time we were on the carousel. She says her favorite ride is the Haunted Mansion, but I would think from her reactions that carousels are the best.
I have more pictures of this face than I can count- she isn't sure she likes the flash or the little red eye light.

I don't have words for this picture- I just love it.
Sweet as Honey (hahaha)

Xander's favorite ride: Space Mountain!
(Though he looks a little terrified, I guess that's part of the thrill)

Day 2: Brushes

Assignment: Load brushes into photoshop and apply to an image.

Result:

Photoshop Frame-ups Class

I signed up for a free Photoshop class through Jessica Sprague. Here is the first assignment. I had to add a frame and a word art.

The Lego Store

Did you know that in Downtown Disney (which is outside the Park and basically a large outdoor mall) there is a Lego store?

We saw a lot of people walking around with Lego bags and finally just asked where they had gone to find Lego stuff.

Xander especially liked the wall of Legos, he built his own assortment of hard to find colors and pieces.

What's better than Darth Vader out of Legos??
Giant Lego Bricks, Of Course!
